VoxelMatters is one of the most important media outlets about AM in the world, as well as a market research company
On September 5, 2013, the first article was published on the Italian blog IL REPLICATORE, officially starting its history. The blog was founded by Davide Sher – one of the most well-known and respected journalists in the global AM industry. Over the years, IL REPLICATORE gave rise to 3Discover.it and Replicatore.it. In 2015, their English-language continuations were launched – 3D Printing Media Network, which evolved into VoxelMatters, and the 3D Printing Business Directory – the largest database of AM companies in the world (now VM Directory). VoxelMatters is also a significant consulting and market research company in the AM field.
The first, historic article was news about the 3D printer botObjects, which was the first to promise full-color 3D printing in FDM/FFF technology (which turned out to be untrue after years). As Davide Sher recalls, the next articles on the blog were about issue of copyright in 3D printing and additive manufacturing of implants.
In the following years, IL REPLICATORE underwent a rather traditional development path – from a blog to a fully-fledged, specialized web portal, on the foundations of which subsequent services were created – now with a global reach. In 2015, the aforementioned 3D Printing Business Directory was established, which today is a unique phenomenon in the AM industry, listing over 7,000 companies operating in all possible aspects of 3D printing and related activities.
Also, the 3D Printing Media Network was created – the English-language version of the Italian portal, which eventually became an independent, strong medium in the industry, and on February 28, 2023, finally transformed into VoxelMatters. The company were founded by Davide Sher, Federico Sher and Francesco Pulimeni.
In describing the history of REPLICATORE and VM, it is impossible not to mention Davide Sher. Davide is a journalist with nearly 20 years of experience (including working for La Gazzetta dello Sport!), as well as an analyst and expert in the AM field. He was an analyst at SmarTech Analysis and currently runs his own market research activities in the AM sector also under the VoxelMatters banner.
I had the opportunity to meet Davide first when he was collaborating with 3D Printing Industry (where I also published my articles) and later when he was launching 3D Printing Media Network. Since then, we have often collaborated, frequently exchanging exclusive news that we published on our respective web portals. Our collaboration continues to this day…
