09-14-2015: Dr. Hans J. Langer – the founder of EOS, took on a partnership with DyeMansion
Langer acted as a business angel and shareholder
On September 14, 2015, EOS founder Dr. Hans J. Langer entered into a partnership with the young Munich-based company DyeMansion GmbH as a business angel and shareholder. DyeMansion had developed a process for high-quality color finishing of laser-sintered surfaces and was offering dyeing services for parts in eight standard colors. Over time, DyeMansion became a leading player in the post-processing market for plastic parts, expanding its offerings to include cleaning and chemical surfacing. Most importantly, it began manufacturing and selling its systems to customers worldwide.
The partnership between Langer and DyeMansion was first initiated at the Munich 3D-Printing-Cluster, founded by EOS, UnternehmerTUM GmbH, and the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship. Langer believed that adding color to laser-sintered plastic parts was key to further developing additive manufacturing applications. The EOS founder saw DyeMansion’s technology as the ideal platform for that growth.
DyeMansion was founded in 2013 by Felix Ewald and Philipp Kramer, who began developing a new coloring technology specifically for SLS parts. It turned out that color was not the only significant feature of their technology. The process also enhanced other characteristics of the printed parts, resulting in higher quality surface finishes and making them resistant to dirt, water, and abrasion. Even the yellowing process was significantly reduced. The colors were UV-stable and resistant to most bleaches and solvents.
Initially, the company offered dyeing services for selective laser sintering (SLS) parts. It wasn't until 2015 that DyeMansion began selling machines, launching its first product, the DM60, a system designed for automated coloring of 3D-printed parts. This marked a shift from being a service provider to a manufacturer of post-processing equipment, laying the foundation for the company’s future growth in the additive manufacturing industry.
Today, it is one of the key companies in the additive manufacturing market, specializing in automated and systemized post-processing of parts to injection molding quality.
