11-02-2018: 3devo introduced two new desktop-grade filament extrusion machines – the Precision and Composer
They were an evolution of the previous NEXT 1.0 and 3devo Advanced models
On November 2, 2018, Dutch company 3devo launched two new filament production machines aimed at office environments – the Precision and Composer. These devices were an evolution of the previous NEXT 1.0 and 3devo Advanced models, already in use by the education and R&D sectors. The new series aimed to further simplify material production by providing more targeted solutions.
The Precision Series was designed for low-volume filament production, offering improved diameter precision and increased speed. The machine features a high-efficiency extruder screw, enabling filament production with consistent diameter tolerances, even at high speeds.
The Composer Series, on the other hand, was aimed at users looking for material mixing solutions and experimenting with different polymers and additives. Devices in this series were equipped with a special mixing screw, allowing for the production of custom filaments with high-quality material mixing and compounding.
Each series had two models tailored to different temperature requirements. The Precision 350 and Composer 350 models handled temperatures up to 350°C, allowing the processing of standard materials such as PLA, ABS, PC, PS, PETG, TPU, TPE, PPS, and PA. The Precision 450 and Composer 450 models, which operate at temperatures up to 450°C, enabled the processing of advanced materials, such as PAEK, PSU, PTFE, and PVDF.
A technological innovation in both series was the modular design of the extruder system, encompassing the screw, barrel, die-head, motor, and heaters, which could be easily disassembled. This facilitated cleaning, maintenance, and repairs, providing a significant improvement for users. New ceramic heaters with four heating zones were also introduced, along with enhanced software that increased thermal stability by approximately 35%.
