11-07-2023: Markforged introduced the FX10 3D printer and Vega, a carbon fiber-filled PEKK filament
Bot products were presented at the Formnext trade fair in Frankfurt
On November 7, 2023, Markforged unveiled its latest industrial 3D printer, the FX10, and a high-performance 3D printing material called Vega, a PEEK and carbon fiber composite. Bot products were presented at the Formnext trade fair in Frankfurt. The FX10, a smaller and more affordable version of the FX20, boasted enhanced functional features, with a working area of 375 x 300 x 300 mm, making it the second-largest printer in Markforged’s lineup.
The FX10 was equipped with modular systems for expansion and upgrades, including an integrated vision module on the print head to capture detailed images of parts and data. The build chamber was heated. Also, according to manufacturer, software and new hardware features allowed the FX10 to deliver nearly double the print speed compared to previous Markforged industrial models in this series.
Extensive attention was paid to print accuracy control. Optical sensors mounted on the print head automatically verified dimensional accuracy during operation, and a laser micrometer scanned parts during 3D printing, aiding in automatic machine calibration.
Vega, meanwhile, was an ultra-high-performance filament developed for aerospace-grade parts on the FX20 printer, aiming to produce plastic parts with aluminum-like strength for demanding applications.
Vega featured an outstanding surface quality, surpassing most high-temperature plastics used in additive manufacturing, with a smooth, black, matte finish. This material was warp-resistant—an ongoing challenge with high-temperature plastics—and offered high flame, smoke, and toxicity (FST) resistance, ideal for high-value applications.
