11-09-2022: SLM Solutions introduced the NXG XII 600E metal AM system
It had 1.5-meter extended Z-axis to NXG XII 600model
On November 9, 2022, SLM Solutions launched NXG XII 600E - a new 3D metal printer based on the popular NXG XII 600 model, with an expanded build chamber extending to 1.5 meters on the Z-axis. SLM also announced its first order from Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC), a lead contractor for the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) project.
The NXG XII 600E could produce large parts within hours or days, thanks to its 12 powerful 1 kW lasers and a 3D printing speed of 1000 cm³/hour. The machine was twenty times faster than a single-laser system and five times faster than a four-laser one, minimizing the cost per part.
This advanced 3D printer allowed for a one-hour turnaround time between print jobs, a drastic improvement compared to days-long wait times reported in other technologies. Moreover, the NXG platform featured an open architecture, maximizing process flexibility with adjustable parameters, a 90 µm layer thickness, and a broad material range, including IN718, AlSi10Mg, TiAl6V4, and copper alloys.
The Free Float support-free printing capability enabled "maximum design freedom," reducing the need for support structures and post-processing time by up to 90%. Customers who had installed or planned to install the NXG XII 600 could also upgrade their systems for expanded production volume due to the machine's expandable architecture.
Both NXG XII 600 and NXG XII 600E systems have solidified SLM Solutions' position as a leading global producer of metal AM systems. The release came just two months after Nikon Corporation's announcement of its acquisition of SLM, finalized in 2023.
