Relativity Space joins the club of companies facing financial struggles

Atomic Layer of the Day:
Last month, I published two historical articles on one of the most fascinating companies in the global AM industry—Relativity Space. The first, dated October 1, covered the company’s 2019 success in securing $140 million in funding to advance its 3D-printed rocket technology, Terran. The second, on October 24, detailed the development of the Stargate 4th Generation—the world’s largest metal 3D printing system.
Unfortunately, it appears that this remarkable company is in trouble. Bloomberg reports that Relativity Space is facing serious financial challenges. Although the company continues to pledge full commitment to its flagship project, the Terran R, these ongoing financial issues could pose a significant obstacle. The rocket launch is planned for 2026. This will be the company’s second attempt to reach orbit; in 2023, Terran 1, Relativity Space's first rocket model, unfortunately fell short of this goal. Notably, 85% of the rocket’s components were produced using 3D printing technology.
But will they succeed this time?
Bloomberg points out that financial difficulties are not unique to the space sector; Virgin Orbit recently declared bankruptcy, while other companies like Rocket Lab and SpaceX continue to secure major contracts and maintain high valuations. Relativity’s challenges could be indicative of broader issues in funding innovation within the U.S., which has implications for national security and supply chain resilience.
Bloomberg’s report is based on anonymous sources, and the company has yet to comment on these developments.

I recently informed about the significant price cuts on 3D printers in Bambu Lab's Black Friday offer. So it shouldn't be surprising that Creality3D decided to do the same. Since this company's printers are cheaper, the post-promotion prices are — I don’t know… practically free?
