Atomic Layer of the Day:
A year ago, UltiMaker announced that it was transforming MakerBot into an educational brand. It was a rather sad end for a company that had been so instrumental in the 3D printing industry. Once an absolute pioneer and trendsetter - now nothing more than a 3D printer for schools and libraries…
What’s more, MakerBot has been effectively reduced to the Sketch line, which is nothing more than a rebranded Chinese Flashforge Adventurer.
It’s sad, but that’s how it is, and there’s nothing that can be done about it.
Meanwhile, just two days ago, UltiMaker posted a short video teaser on X, showcasing a new MakerBot 3D printer, suggesting a new level of quality. The official release is set for next Tuesday, October 22. We’re expected to see: “faster print speeds, more possibilities, and the power to bring your ideas to life faster than ever."
You can watch the video at this link. What you’ll see is an extruder that looks exactly like all the Chinese extruders being built today, following the design pioneered by Bambu Lab. Naturally, all the new Flashforge models feature identical-looking extruders.
So, it’s highly probable that this “new” product will once again come from China—once again branded with an American name.
